Meet the Chef

Hello!   I am Chef Tirzah Love, and for the past eight years I have been a Private Chef and Caterer. After working in corporate and start-up settings, I started my own catering company and later became a Private Chef for select players of the Sacramento Kings.

I am passionate about healthy, organic and GMO free cuisine, and I embed this values  in my approach to cooking and teaching. One of the highlights of my career was when I was featured on Beat Bobby Flay, and later named one of Essence Magazines “7 Dope Chefs You Oughta Know.

I am so excited to introduce you to SoulBox, and I can’t wait to cook with you in your home!

The Chef Tirzah Experience

A Beat at the Table

Previously, I hosted A Beat at the Table – a sultry, communal, and soulful pop-up event in Oakland featuring a five plate meal, coursed out slowly and presented beautifully. It was a complete sensory experience and included a DJ Rikkie Tee curated soundtrack with each dish and beautiful artwork presented by local artisans to enhance the ambiance.

Tuesdays with Tirzah

Tuesdays with Tirzah is another event I created as a simple call to action on Facebook. I invited anyone who felt lonely, depressed, or just wanted to connect with others in the community to come to my house on Tuesday evenings for dinner.  The turnout was amazing! Complete strangers, old friends, and family members would come to my home for a beautiful meal and intimate conversation every week.  We ended up outgrowing my home and moving into a larger capacity area to meet growing demand for this event.

Both of these events were incredibly successful and provided strong proof of concept for my approach to cultivating community through cooking.  During the pandemic, I had to find a way to pivot my business to match the changing landscape. I started with weekly virtual cooking classes on Tuesdays in the spirit of TWT, and soon after partnered with a talent management and events company to host corporate cooking classes with meal kits.  My clients loved the fun, new, and convenient classes and meal kits, and I was inspired to create a meal box that reflected my own values, love of nourishing foods, and desire to uplift communities.  I was accepted into the Uptima Collective with my new business idea and thus, Soul Box was born.

Now, I am excited to bring this same in-person experience straight to your home.
